Legendary architect Oscar Niemeyer dies

EmailBrazilians were mourning the death of legendary communist architect Oscar Niemeyer today.
Mr Niemeyer, who died aged 104 on Wednesday night, designed many of the buildings in the nation's capital Brasilia and worked with other architects on the UN headquarters in New York.
He was a close friend of Fidel Castro and the recipient of numerous awards, including the Lenin Peace Prize and the Pritzker Prize for architecture. He served as president of the Brazilian Communist Party from 1992 to 1996.
President Dilma Rousseff said: "Today, Brazil lost one of its geniuses."
