It's time to reopen British mines

EmailNuclear power is by no means pollution-free as regards waste disposal. It is not pollution-free as regards uranium mining, either. Perhaps this is the reason that the stuff is no longer dug out in Cornwall.
Obviously, all forms of renewable energy are good. However, we should like to draw Star readers' attention to a news item from www.bjreview.com.
It notes: "China's first carbon capture and storage demonstration project in Erjinhoro Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was sealed off according to China Shenhua Coal to Liquid and Chemical Co. Ltd."
Britain has large reserves of underground coal, most of which have been sealed off during the past 50 years. There are still miners around capable of training others.
The claim that coal is necessarily a dirty fuel no longer holds water in view of the latest developments in China.
The British ruling class would be foolish to let past animosities prevent it from reopening our coalmines.
