Star shouldn't back Better Together campaign

Tuesday 11 December 2012

Well done on the launch of the Scottish version of the Morning Star, at which I was present.

It was a clear recognition of the significance of the national question in Scotland and I must commend all the speakers for staying away from the Better Together nonsense, as well as not endorsing the anti-socialist call from Johann Lamont for cuts in welfare.

I also noticed her absence from the function, despite being advertised to speak.

The Jimmy Reid foundation has dealt with her Toryesque havering and so should Scottish Labour.

The Yes for Independence campaign - which is a national democratic movement - has room in it for Star readers.

As a long time supporter, I urge the Star not to jump into the Better Together coalition of the backward and I ask your Scottish correspondent Malcolm Burns to study national democratic movements before condemning the Yes campaign.

On a final note, where was the Star during the radical conference in Glasgow a couple of weeks ago?

Tailing the mood of the working class has never been the policy of the newspaper.
