Morsi opponents face treason probe for their role in protests

EmailOpposition figures warned Egypt was sliding towards becoming a police state today as opponents of President Mohammed Morsi were put under investigation for treason.
Defeated presidential candidates Amr Moussa and Hamdeen Sabahi and other leaders were accused of treason after calling for the overthrow of the president during protests earlier this month.
The Muslim Brotherhood alleged the opposition was "duping simple Egyptians to rise against legitimacy and inciting against the president."
The chief prosecutor launched the investigation on Thursday.
Opposition leaders said Mr Morsi was dealing with opposition in the same way as former leader Hosni Mubarak, who was ousted in February 2011.
