Lord Beveridge was a Liberal and Paul Burstow is a Lib Dem who argues (M Star January 4) that depriving at least three in four old people of their fuel allowance would be "brave and caring" as it would enable the government to partially fund care for the elderly.
Crikey! What was wonderful about the Beveridge report was that the system he proposed would be universal, signifying an end to divisive and hateful means tests.
The Tories can have Paul Burstow.
Give us an old fashioned Liberal any day.
