April Jones accused 'probably responsible' for her death

Monday 14 January 2013

Former lifeguard Mark Bridger is "probably responsible" for the death of missing five-year-old April Jones, Mold Crown Court heard today.

Mr Bridger entered not guilty pleas to abduction, murder and perverting the course of justice but his lawyer Brendan Kelly told the court Mr Bridger's defence involves him "conceding that he probably killed the child."

Mr Bridger, of Mount Pleasant farmhouse in Ceinws near Machynlleth, will stand trial accused of murdering April, who went missing in mid Wales on October 1 last year.

April was last seen playing out on her bike on Machynlleth's Bryn-y-Gog estate where she lived.

Mr Bridger was arrested the following day but the search for April's body goes on.

The trial, which is expected to take around four weeks, is due to begin on February 25.
