4,000 jobs at risk after Blockbuster collapse

Wednesday 16 January 2013

Another blow hit our high streets today when DVD rental firm Blockbuster went into administration putting more than 4,000 jobs at risk.

Administrator Deloitte said the company had suffered competition from internet firms such as LoveFilm and digital streaming.

The latest in a spate of administrations threatens to make this one of the worst periods in the history of the high street after HMV and Jessops both hit the rocks earlier this month.

Deloitte, which took control of HMV on Tuesday, said today that Blockbuster's stores would continue to trade as normal in the meantime.
