Argentina is no threat to islanders

Wednesday 23 January 2013

In response to Malcolm Parker (M Star January 16), we must be absolutely clear that the British living on the Malvinas islands are under no threat from Argentina.

They are British but where they live is not.

Argentina has many minorities living within its borders, including Welsh-speakers who have kept their language and culture.

Argentina doesn't want to eject anyone from the Malvinas islands but wants its sovereignty to be recognised.

Malcolm correctly shows why "self-determination" doesn't apply.

This is why we need negotiation between London and Buenos Aires, rather than London sending a nuclear submarine to the South Atlantic - whereas Buenos Aires sends ambassador Alicia Castro. Compare and contrast.
