Cut the 'butcher's apron'

There must be many indigenous Irish men and women in the six counties who would like to see the national flag of Ireland flying above Belfast City hall even for one day a year.

Known throughout the world, including Ireland, as the "butcher's apron," the Union Flag reminds me of the last two lines of the poem by Wilfred Owen, the famous poet of World War I, entitled The Next War:

And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags

He fights on Death, for lives; not men, for flags.
