NHS cuts reduce access to contraception advice

EmailSexual health charities warned yesterday that NHS cuts are restricting access to contraceptive services.
Charities Brook and the Family Planning Association (FPA) predicted a "significant rise" in the number of abortions and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) by 2020 if restrictions continue.
The NHS will have to spend hundreds of millions as a consequence, they added.
FPA acting chief executive Dr Audrey Simpson said unplanned pregnancy and STIs have obvious costs to people's well-being and heavy financial costs to the NHS and welfare state.
"Investment in sexual health saves money but if thegovernment continues stripping away services, advice and information, the bleak predictions in this report will come true," she added.
