Chris Gould's letter Violence isn't always wrong (M Star January 26-27) raises interesting points and an overall dilemma. I've heard some pacifists say we shouldn't have fought the nazis.
Gandhi's views were thought-provoking. He said: "Non-violence is infinitely superior to violence. But the message of non-violence is for those who know how to die.
"If one has not that courage, I want him to cultivate the art of killing and being killed, rather than in a cowardly manner to flee from danger."
