Would Labour free the NHS from PFI?
Wednesday 30 January 2013
John Lister's excellent piece on Lewisham Hospital (M Star, January 26-27) raises the wider question of how to defend our NHS across the board.
He suggests that the Labour Party, despite its commitment to repeal the Health & Social Care Act, may not yet be committed to tackling private finance initiatives (PFI).
For the record, the 2012 Labour conference unanimously called on the next Labour Government to "stop this government's privatisation and liberate the NHS from extortionate PFI charges."
In the meanwhile we must all follow the inspiring examples set by Lewisham and other local campaigns and defend our NHS from the salami-slicing onslaught of the slippery Health Secretary and his gathering queue of profit-bent "qualified providers."
