Michael Rasmussen admits to doping

Thursday 31 January 2013

Cycling: A former Tour de France “king of the mountain” admitted today to systematic doping throughout a 12-year period.

Danish cyclist Michael Rasmussen, who rides with Christina Watches-Onfon, made the confession during a news conference in Denmark, revealing that he had taken numerous drugs including human growth hormones and testosterone.

The 38-year-old’s announcement is another blow for the sport a fortnight after Lance Armstrong made a full confession to doping during all seven of his Tour de France victories.

Rasmussen, the former Rabobank rider nicknamed “The Chicken,” said: “I am well aware that I have cheated, lied and deceived people and other athletes.

“I am now ready to make good and I’m ready to take my punishment.”
