EmailFootball: David Beckham stole the spotlight on transfer deadline day today as he completed a move to French billionaires PSG and revealed that he will donate his salary to a children’s charity in Paris.
The former Real Madrid and England midfielder signed a five-month contract with the oil-rich side and was unveiled to a packed press room at the Parc des Princes stadium.
After being introduced by the club’s director of football Leonardo, Beckham said: “One of the reasons I wanted to come to Paris was we decided on something quite unique. I won’t receive any salary. My salary will go to a local children’s charity.”
Speaking of his honour to be at the club, he added: “Wherever I’ve played, whatever team I’ve played for, I’m always 150 per cent committed.
“I don’t expect to come into this team and play in every single game. I don’t expect to start. I have to work for that.”
Elsewhere Mario Balotelli scored his first goal for Milan within hours of completing his £19 million switch to his boyhood club, coming off the bench to net for the Rossoneri in a 10-0 friendly victory over Serie D side Darfo Boario.
The forward, who grabbed 30 goals in 80 games for Manchester City, also paid tribute to former boss Roberto Mancini.
He said: “I love Roberto, he has been very important for my career and I will always thank him for having trust and faith in me.
“I will always have a very special place in my heart for City, it’s a great club with a great future. Maybe one day we will see each other again.”
Another big deadline day move saw QPR smash their transfer record with a £12.5m swoop for Anzhi defender Christopher Samba.
Rs boss Harry Redknapp, who also oversaw Alejandro Faurlin’s loan move to Palermo, hailed the deal for the former Blackburn stopper move as “unbelievable.”
Elsewhere Danny Graham sealed a £5m transfer from Swansea to Sunderland, while relegation-threatened Aston Villa strengthened their midfield with the signature of Yacouba Sylla from Clermont.
Finally Stoke completed arguably one of the smartest deals of the day as they signed highly rated goalkeeper Jack Butland for a fee in the region of £4m from Birmingham, with the starlet staying with the Blues on loan until the summer.
