Clegg ought to remember no-one should pay for a decent education

EmailNick Clegg's public angst over whether or not to send his son to a fee-paying school is a clear case of "do as I say and not as I do."
It is also arrogant and misguided for him not to send his son to a state school because it sends out the message that schools which are deemed good enough for the rest of us are not good enough for his son.
Access to a top-quality education should be available to everyone regardless of financial means.
The coalition's policies of trebling tuition fees to £9,000 and withdrawing the education maintenance allowance have had a disproportionately adverse affect on students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, as they are unable to continue their studies.
Further cuts to bursary schemes have further prevented academically able students from getting on in life.
It is no wonder that in today's competitive labour market there are a million young people unable to find work.
Doubtless Clegg will say that he should be free to choose where to educate his children but what happens if you cannot afford to choose?
