Knocked for six

Monday 04 February 2013

I would like to add another observation to both Jon Gemmell's article on Class and cricket (M Star January 22) and Malc Gee's response (M Star February 4).

I agree that cricket as a whole needs to work harder at becoming a more inclusive and diverse sport.

But it is worth noting that the number of women playing the game across the country has been growing.

A few years ago there were fewer than 100 clubs fielding female teams whereas that number has now grown to 600.

If only society could match the pace of change that has been seen in women's cricket.

If nothing else it gives cause for optimism that change within the sport and society as a whole is possible.
