Christian Aid hails Tory's Star article

Tuesday 12 February 2013

Christian Aid praised Tory MP Stephen McPartland today for speaking out in the Morning Star against tax evasion by giant companies.

Stevenage MP Mr McPartland set off a surge of media and online interest after he became the first Westminster Tory MP to write an article for the Star.

Christian Aid political adviser Sol Oyuela said: "We commend Mr McPartland's campaign for greater accountability from multinationals for their tax affairs in developing countries.

"Such immoral practices have an even worse impact in developing countries."

Ms Oyuela said businesses must heed growing calls from parliamentarians united in their opposition to tax dodging.

Mr McPartland, who has set up a new website www.taxchallenge.co.uk, told in his Star article how a meeting in his constituency with Christian Aid campaigners had spurred him to launch his campaign.
