Police said today that a number of people were caught up in an avalanche in the Scottish Highlands.
The Northern Constabulary said that the avalanche was reported shortly after 12.30pm in the Chalamain Gap area of the Cairngorms. Officers were being assisted by members of Cairngorm mountain rescue team, search and rescue dogs, RAF Lossiemouth's mountain rescue team and a helicopter.
Three people had been airlifted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as the Morning Star went to press.
A government guided by common sense would respond to news that publicly owned Royal Mail has increased profits to £403 million by scrapping plans to flog off the service.
