Iberia staff strike against cuts

EmailGround staff and cabin crews at Spain's Iberia Airlines began a 15-day programme of strikes today to protest against plans to lay off 3,800 staff.
Hundreds of Iberia workers staged a march around Madrid's Barajas airport.
Airports across Spain will also be hit with union-organised demonstrations on the first and last days of the strike and the workers will hold a street protest in central Madrid Wednesday evening.
The unions are planning three separate five-day strikes during February 18-22, March 4-8 and March 18-22.
The company says that the stoppages, to be staged over three weeks, will lead to more than 1,200 flight cancellations, including 236 today.
Iberia claims that economic difficulties have obliged it to make layoffs.
The airline merged with British Airways in 2011 to create International Airlines Group, and the new management has been trying to cut costs.
