Tube workers stand up for safety on Bakerloo Line

Thursday 21 February 2013

Bakerloo Line Tube drivers will take to London's streets this morning to counter bosses' "spin and lies" about daily delays.

Drivers and supporters will be outside Queen's Park station during the morning rush hour as part of their fight to protect passengers and staff.

Since January 15 Bakerloo drivers in rail unions RMT and Aslef have been physically checking that all passengers are off the train before moving into the sidings.

Bosses had stopped station staff checking carriages in a drive to get rid of them to save money.

RMT said the drivers had now eliminated the problem of "over carrying" passengers into sidings but this has resulted in substantial service delays.

General secretary Bob Crow said: "The company has resorted to the most blatant misinformation to keep this dispute out the spotlight rather than using their time to get round the table to resolve the issue."
