Protests greet Leeds cuts

Wednesday 27 February 2013

Demonstrators lobbied Labour-run Leeds City Council today in protest at imposition of government cuts.

The government has axed more than £50 million from the council's budget this year, on top of £145m cut over the last two years.

Four hundred jobs are under threat - almost half of them in adult social care.

The city has already lost centres for people with mental health problems.

Demonstrators outside the city's Civic Hall lobbied today's budget meeting at which the latest cuts were being implemented.
