Nappy couple

Wednesday 27 February 2013

Cherie Blair, wife of disgraced ex-PM Tony, joins Labour candidate and satirist John O'Farrell today on the campaign trail in Southampton's Children's Hospital near Eastleigh.

Labour leader Ed Miliband came under fire during Prime Minister's Question Time today over comments Mr O'Farrell made in a 1998 book about his "disappointment" that Tory heart-throb Margaret Thatcher hadn't been killed in the IRA's 1984 Brighton bomb attack.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg also toured Eastleigh ahead of tomorrow's by-election, caused by one-time party bigwig Nick Huhne's resignation over perverting the course of justice.

Mr Clegg insisted that scandal and ongoing controversy over Lord Rennard's alleged sexual harassment wouldn't affect the result.

Legal action charity Reprieve called on the three big-party candidates to make clear their position on secret courts as laid out in the Justice and Security Bill.

A government guided by common sense would respond to news that publicly owned Royal Mail has increased profits to £403 million by scrapping plans to flog off the service.
