An independent councillor who arrogantly refused to quit for saying disabled children "should be put down" finally agreed to resign today.
Cornwall councillor Collin Brewer made the comment in 2011 when he went up to a disability advice stall, adding that they "cost the council too much money."
He initially refused to resign, which prompted an outcry from disabled people, their carers and campaigners.
As a result Mr Brewer, a councillor of nearly 26 years, agreed to resign.
Fire Minister Brandon Lewis probably had a fair idea what Sir Ken Knight would deliver when he asked him to conduct an "independent" report into fire and rescue services in England.
