Stuart Hall makes court appearance

Veteran BBC broadcaster Stuart Hall made his first Crown Court appearance today after he was accused of a string of historic sex offences.

He spoke only to confirm his name in an eight-minute preliminary hearing at Preston Crown Court's Sessions House Grade II listed Edwardian Baroque-style building. The case was adjourned until April 16 when the defendant is expected to enter formal pleas to the charges.

NHS campaigners target Virgin Media

NHS campaigners in Leeds are protesting outside Virgin Media's store in the city tomorrow against Virgin's involvement in the NHS privatisation.

Virgin Care is the company's private health arm Protesters will be running a stall and leafleting outside the Virgin Media store in Commercial Street from 11am to 1pm.

Saddam 'accessory' suspended

Iraqi doctor Mohammed al-Byati who was an "accessory to torture" in Saddam Hussein's brutal regime was suspended for 12 months, a tribunal ruled today.

The Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service found that Mr Byati carried out medical treatments on camp detainees in Iraq between December 1992 and March 1994 and the doctor knew some prisoners he treated had sustained injuries as a result of torture.
