Aston Villa v Man City preview: Citizens must win ‘11 Cup finals,’ insists Carlos Tevez

Striker calls on champions to raise their game in title run-in
Sunday 03 March 2013

Football: Argentinian striker Carlos Tevez believes Manchester City must win their remaining games in the Premier League if they are to stand any chance of retaining their title.

City, who travel to Aston Villa tonight, trail Manchester United by 15 points and Tevez knows that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups.

“I think that what we have left is 11 cup finals,” Tevez said. “There is not long between now and the rest of the season and we must win — we have to win.

“It is very important that we stay strong — both mentally and physically — going into each of the remaining games.”

Aston Villa will no doubt be of a similar mindset as they bid to retain their top-flight status.

The Midlands side are currently 18th in the table and only have one Premier League win to their name since the middle of December.

Manager Paul Lambert maintains that he and his team are up for the challenge.

“You either deal with it and meet it head-on or you roll over and die with it. I always meet things head-on,” he said.

“It’s a great challenge, but it’s a brilliant challenge for us to go and rectify it.”
