Caracas needs our support right now

Friday 08 March 2013

The legacy of Hugo Chavez will continue to thrive in Venezuela only if we continue to show the strongest of solidarity to Caracas at this pivotal moment.

The US will see the passing of Chavez as a golden opportunity to destabilise the country and undermine the Bolivarian revolution and reverse its economic and social gains.

All negative and biased reporting in the anti-Chavez media must be challenged and corrected by friends of Latin America whatever their political stripes.

The revolution is more than just one man, it is the biggest riposte to neo-liberal economics since the fall of socialism in eastern Europe in 1989.

Truly it shows that another world is possible and that supporting the ongoing progressive path in Venezuela and beyond is the best way to safeguard Chavez's legacy. We must show all the support and solidarity in the world to Vice-President Nicolas Maduro and to paraphrase Joe Hill, not just mourn but organise!
