Huhne to learn fate on Monday

Disgraced MP Chris Huhne and his ex-wife Vicky Pryce will be sentenced on Monday, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.

The former couple are both facing jail terms at the hearing at Southwark Crown Court at 2pm.

Ms Pryce was found guilty of perverting the course of justice by taking speeding points for Mr Huhne in 2003. The former energy secretary had already pleaded guilty to the charge.

Labour to put Clegg on spot over tax

Labour will challenge Nick Clegg to back the introduction of a Mansion Tax in a Commons vote next week.

The opposition has called a debate on Tuesday on the policy - long favoured by the Liberal Democrats.

It is understood the motion will not specifically link the levy to bringing back the 10p tax rate, which could have made it easier for the junior coalition partner to reject

Baby born on commuter train

The father of a baby girl born on a train packed full of commuters during rush hour said today : "It feels like I'm on cloud nine."

Allan Stanley was travelling back to his mother's home with his partner Sonia Banks when the contractions started.

Moments later, on the London Victoria to Maidstone East service on Thursday night, Ms Banks gave birth to a "perfectly healthy" 6lb 13oz baby called Phoebe.
