Scottish animal charity SPCA said today that there is a "shameful" amount of cruelty to animals in the country.
Fifty-five people were banned from keeping animals last year, with another 62 people fined and one jailed.
And it said calls to its helpline had risen by half on 2011 to 195,000.
Among those banned were Richard Bunker, who severely underfed dog Jess, and Maureen Mountain, who abandoned two kittens.
