A coroner has been charged with a string of fraud offences amounting to more than £2 million, Gloucestershire Police said today.
Alan Crickmore, of East Approach Drive in Cheltenham, is accused of 12 counts of theft, seven counts of fraud by position and one count of fraud by false representation.
The solicitor was suspended in December 2010 when the Solicitors Regulation Authority began investigating his law firm.
A police spokesman said that the charges followed a criminal investigation that began a month later.
Mr Crickmore will appear in the town's magistrates' court on April 9.
Fire Minister Brandon Lewis probably had a fair idea what Sir Ken Knight would deliver when he asked him to conduct an "independent" report into fire and rescue services in England.
