EU has locked 27 nation states into capitalist prison

Tuesday 12 March 2013

The EU Constitution, known as the Lisbon Treaty, has reinforced capitalism as the economic system for its nation states. The EU is the antithesis of democracy and right of nation states to self-determination.

The EU is deliberately designed to block socialism and has 27 member states locked in a prison where the keys are held in Brussels.

The EU wants to do away with nation states and the powers of national governments. It's the transnational corporations and banks which want to be rid of national controls that inhibit their objectives.

It's the transnationals in the form of the powerful European Round Table of Industrialists and banks which promote the EU at every level.

It's they who drafted the various EU treaties, the European single market, single currency, single foreign policy and plans for a single European army.

The nation state is currently the only body that has powers to control transnational corporations.

Nato and EU armed forces are trashing nation states in a temporary joint imperialist arrangement.

Chavez in Venezuela and Castro in Cuba have been strong active advocates of the right to self-determination of nation states.

Andrew Northall (M Star March 4), with others, presses for an impossible workers' Europe without nation states. This is plainly not internationalism, which requires nation states to exist, but in line with transnational companies' objectives.

Democracy can only function within a nation state and not between nation states. The EU is not and cannot be democratic.

Over a century ago James Connolly defined the class struggle as achieving national independence and democracy.

The right to self-determination, national independence and democracy provides the opportunity to pass laws and use powers to put socialism or any other -ism in place.
