Police charge man accused of stabbing teenager

Tuesday 12 March 2013

West Midlands Police said today that they have been given authority by the Crown Prosecution Service to charge 22-year-old Phillip Simelane with the killing of Christina Edkins in Birmingham last week.

Mr Simelane, from Walsall, was sectioned under the Mental Health Act following the stabbing of the 16-year-old school girl last Thursday and will be charged with murder in due course, a police spokesman said.

Christina's parents Jason and Kathleen described her as a "bubbly, beautiful and intelligent" teenager.

They said: "We are heartbroken by the loss of our beautiful princess Christina and it's hard to find words to describe the pain we're all feeling.

"Our lives will never be the same again."
