Jobs axed in Daily Telegraph merger

Eighty of the Daily and Sunday Telegraphs' 550 newsroom workers will lose their jobs when the two papers merge.

A letter to staff from chief executive Murdoch MacLennan that spelled out the extent of the cuts leaked out today.

The right-wing papers, owned by the secretive billionaire Barclay brothers, will become a single, seven-day operation.
