Cuts 'trampling women'

Friday 15 March 2013

Scottish women are being trampled over by the Con-Dem's austerity drive, STUC women's committee chairwoman Eileen Dinning warned today.

Unison Scotland equalities officer Ms Dinning told delegates at the TUC Women's conference that women are the worst paid despite making up the majority in many Scottish unions.

"Many are struggling under this government's austerity programme, or let's call it what it really is - a direct attack on the poor, a protection racket for the rich and outright contempt for working people."

The Scottish government took part in a women's employment summit last year that called for real investment in state-funded childcare and a challenge to the increased casualisation of the labour market.
