Ireland women seal Six Nations Grand Slam

Irish complete clean sweep with narrow win over Italy
Sunday 17 March 2013

Rugby union: Ireland's women claimed their first Six Nations Grand Slam thanks to a 6-3 win over Italy on St Patrick's Day.

A day after their male counterparts slumped to defeat in Rome, full-back Niamh Briggs' two penalties settled a hard-fought game in Ireland's favour.

Italy's Veronica Schiavon had kicked the hosts into an early lead, but the Irish battled back to complete the clean sweep.
