Archbishop wary of father's alcoholism

The new Archbishop of Canterbury has said his wife keeps an eye on his drinking as a result of his own father's alcoholism.

Justin Welby said that he very much enjoys a drink but avoids doing so alone.

In an interview with the Sunday Times Magazine, he said he was aware "that the children of alcoholics have a much better chance themselves of having a dependency problem."

Salvage crews rescue cargo ship

Salvage crews were deciding today how to rescue an 80-metre cargo ship which ran aground near a lighthouse in a wildlife haven.

The MV Danio was heading from Scotland to Belgium, when it got caught on rocks three miles off the Northumberland coast on Saturday.

Lifeboat crews found had a metre-wide hole below the waterline on the port side near the bow.

Police probe fresh hacking claims

Detectives investigating the phone-hacking scandal are examining fresh claims, a lawyer representing victims revealed on Saturday.

Police contacted lawyers and said that the new allegations relate to the now defunct News of the World's feature desk and Trinity Mirror titles.
