Simple solution to rising rent

Friday 22 March 2013

The Lib-Con government's housing benefit cap is upon us and already one London borough is approaching Peterborough Council to provide housing for the people it is forcing out of London.

Londoners have a right to live in the capital and the present legislation is forcing people into exile. It denies people family ties, friends and possibly their jobs and reduces their rights to a cash level.

This is legislation against those with a low income. It is a class-based act which will help enrich landlords and property dealers.

It distorts the situation, where in reality tenants are but a conduit for rents to flow to the landlord. Housing benefits are taxpayers' money.

If the government really wanted to restrict it, it should bring back rent control.
