I've never seen such pathetic, sycophant press coverage, particularly by the BBC, of the inauguration of the new Pope. It's been even worse than the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and you learn absolutely nothing.
The coverage concentrates on minute details such as he picked up his own luggage from the hotel instead of having some slave go get it for him. Are they trying to imply that the Pope is a man of the people, that he is a radical?
Now that's an idea. The Pope standing up for the world's poor and actively campaigning for wealth redistribution or speaking out for the Palestinians or organising protests against war. Wow!
Instead what do we find? This is the Pope who in the 1980s spoke out against liberation theology while US-backed hit squads mowed down Latin America's poor and the greatest bishop ever Oscar Romero.
