Activists give chase to hapless Hunt over NHS privatisation

Friday 22 March 2013

Health activists confronted Jeremy Hunt in his own constituency today to demand an end to NHS privatisation.

They chased the hapless Health Secretary into the Godalming branch of Sainsbury's in Surrey where they pelted eggs and tomatoes at a picture they hung up of Mr Hunt on the in-supermarket cafe window.

Save Lewisham A&E campaign's John Hamilton was among campaigners who gave a letter to Mr Hunt calling for an end to private finance initiative deals and a halt to plans to close or downgrade hospitals across London.

Mr Hunt was also challenged to admit that if section 75 regulations under the Health and Social Care Act were passed into law they would lead to the "irrevocable privatisation of the NHS."

Fire Minister Brandon Lewis probably had a fair idea what Sir Ken Knight would deliver when he asked him to conduct an "independent" report into fire and rescue services in England.
