Foyle's War has its good points

Friday 22 March 2013

So Phil Brand (M Star March 19) is worried about the Cold War direction of the new series of Foyle's War to be screened on Sunday.

I've really enjoyed the previous series not least because of their frequent, if sometimes obscure Communist Party references.

I'm sure I wasn't the only one surprised by the reference to the banning of Alan Bush's music in one episode. Someone on the script team knows their Communist history. So I'm prepared to give the production team a chance.

Foyle's son already has his Communist Party card and I'm wondering if Hasting's fictional super cop might follow Burgess, Maclean, Philby and Blunt into Uncle Joe's employment.

My only worry is that if Christopher Foyle proves to be the real Fifth Man in MI5 what will poor Sam do?
