Unveiling cultural differences

(Wednesday 28 July 2010)

In response to Tony Shelley (M Star July 21) stating that no country has the right to ban what people wear, I am in total agreement - with the exception of covering one's face with a veil.

Letters

Where will the burqa ban end?

(Monday 26 July 2010)

I couldn't agree more with Tony Shelley's letter (M Star July 20).

Letters

No country has a right to dictate what people wear

(Tuesday 20 July 2010)

I am truly astonished by the outcry in Europe, in particular the French and Spanish governments' appalling idea that wearing a burqa is "degrading" to women.

Letters

Why walk out? Withdraw invite to Cameron

(Wednesday 14 July 2010)

Tony Shelley's advice (M Star July 11) to Bob Crow (M Star July 12) is not to walk out when David Cameron addresses the TUC Congress.

Letters

Don't stage TUC walkout

(Sunday 11 July 2010)

I've been a trade unionist all my working life and, despite the shackles placed upon the movement by successive governments, I have never been in any doubt that the movement itself is the prime weapon against capitalist carpet bombing of everything we hold dear.

Letters

Time to stop this bigotry

(Sunday 13 June 2010)

I was disgusted to read that police in Peshawar broke up a ceremony between businessman Iqbal Khan and his partner Rani, a transgender woman (M Star May 27).

They are to be charged with attempted sodomy and could face a jail term of up to seven years. These people have done no wrong. All they are guilty of is having a loving relationship and getting on with their lives. That, it seems, is a "crime."

Can I suggest that we stop invading other people's countries, stop decimating the meagre resources in the world's poorest areas and divert all energies to bring real freedom to the people of Pakistan, by exerting government pressure to live and let live and dispel with this antiquated thought process.

Letters

Falling in love is a right not a criminal act

(Thursday 27 May 2010)

If we are to have what we are told is a "new" kind of government, then one of the coalition's priorities should be "human rights" in Pakistan.

Letters

People put leaders to shame

(Tuesday 05 January 2010)

I would like to endorse everything Norma Turner wrote (M Star January 3). Yes, all of us have lost out due to the tragic indifference shown by the world's leaders.

Letters

Long arm of the law out to terrorise photographers

(Friday 11 December 2009)

I wholeheartedly support Lid Dem frontbencher David Heath in his attack on police officers who are stopping ordinary citizens from taking photographs in public places, particularly landmarks in the capital (M Star December 10).

Letters

A pathetic state of affairs

(Tuesday 17 November 2009)

When I read about Gordon Brown's new powers to restrict bankers' bonuses (M Star November 15) my heart almost burst with despair.
