Elections: 18-year-old candidate takes over

EmailA school pupil became one of the youngest councillors in the country today after winning a seat in Plymouth.
Labour candidate Kate Taylor won her Devonport seat with a majority of 839 as her party won control of the council last night from the Conservatives.
The 18-year-old, who is an A-level student at Notre Dame RC School in Plymouth, took to Twitter to express her delight.
"It's been an exhausting campaign but it was all so worth it. Real work starts here - and I can't wait," she wrote.
"I can't even put into words how amazing it feels.
"Thank you so much for all your tweets tonight. I am incredibly happy and honoured to have been elected.
"But right now I need to get some sleep!!! Absolutely shattered, it's been an incredible but exhausting day."
