EU's the biggest threat to democracy

EmailI always appreciate John Green's thought-provoking opinion pieces and his most recent article (M Star April 29) exposing the extent to which our democracy is a sham, is no exception. But I was surprised he made no mention of the EU.
Much of our legislation now is dominated by the unelected European Commission, based on powers derived from various treaties that were more or less written by representatives of the big transnational corporations.
As a result they embrace the neoliberal policies that operate in their interests and to such an extent that even a Keynesian approach to economic policy, let alone socialism, is rendered illegal, even if a government is elected on either of those platforms.
