Council isn't fooling its staff after union win

Thursday 08 November 2012

Congratulations to Edinburgh Unison for winning their members millions of pounds in their equal pay dispute.

I had a wee chuckle though reading the council spokeperson's statement saying "it reflected a commitment to partnership working from all sides."

It appears that forcing Unison through an employment tribunal, an employment appeal tribunal, the court of session, and the Supreme Court was all done in the name of partnership working!

Partnership working is often rammed down the throats of union negotiators especially in the public sector but it cuts little ice with members.

This weekend in Glasgow trade unionists who recognise what that phrase means in reality - class collaboration - will be meeting.

Tonight will see the book launch of legendary communist trade union organiser Kevin Halpin's autobiography Memoirs of a Militant.

Then on the Saturday morning there will be a Communist Party Scottish Industrial Aggregate, where a new generation of militants will hear from Communist Party industrial organiser Anita Halpin and two of that new generation of communists, Johnnie Hunter and Gordon MacFadden.

Events not to be missed.

Marc Livingstone Scottish Chair Communist Party

Tom Morrison Scottish Secretary Communist Party
