Labour has forgotten where it came from

Thursday 15 November 2012

As the Star regularly reminds us, the NHS is under threat everywhere and privateers are planning to slash jobs at Remploy in Chesterfield.

Both these innovations - free medical care for all and worthwhile productive jobs for those with physical or mental difficulties - were just some of the reforms of Clement Attlee's post-war Labour government.

Its initiatives and achievements have been the target of Tories and Blairites ever since.

Could we have a series of articles in the Star on Attlee?

The current Labour Party has sadly forgotten where it came from and hasn't a clue where it is going. A look back at Attlee - the finest toff ever to lead the Labour Party - would surely remind us all of what can be built in hard times rather than destroyed.
