The Oranges (15)

Directed by Julian Farino
Thursday 06 December 2012

A middle-aged married man suffers a mid-life crisis and falls for his best friend's wayward daughter in this old and well-trodden chestnut.

But it's boosted by some fine performances, with Hugh Laurie on excellent form as David who embarks on an affair with Oliver Platt's 24-year-old prodigal offspring when she returns home after a five-year absence.

But who can blame him for falling for Leighton Meester, who's enticing as the enfant terrible causing destruction in the lives of her parents and their friends.

Though a gentle and unjudgemental comedy, the film provides no groundbreaking insights on the male psyche.
