Stark warning over cuts from education activists

EmailSpanish lecturers protested against spending cuts leading to an "irreparable deterioration" in the education system today.
Chancellors from around 50 state-run universities each read out a statement, warning that the cuts would choke the country's recovery.
The 2013 budget slashes university funding by 18 per cent and research funds by 80 per cent.
Spain is currently enduring its second recession in three years and unemployment has topped 25 per cent.
Up to 25,000 hospital workers protested against budget cuts and the part-privatisation of the health service on Sunday.
Many of the Puerta del Sol protesters wore their hospital uniforms.
Finance Minister Luis de Guindos said the uncertain situation facing the euro was behind the country's woes and reiterated that Spain would not seek a bailout loan unless it knew all the conditions first.
