Using jihad incorrectly

Tuesday 15 January 2013

Kenny Coyle's latest article on Syria (M Star January 11) provides an excellent summary of the ongoing conflict.

My only gripe is the way he, like all Western commentators, uses the word jihad.

This has a powerful and positive meaning in Arab-Islamic culture.

The phrase "to struggle in the way of the almighty" should not be attached to war criminals, whose narrow and sectarian interpretation of Islam has no credence among the vast majority of the -world's millions of Muslims.
