Scottish football: Celtic's shock League Cup semi-final loss to St Mirren may have shattered their treble dreams, but Neil Lennon has ordered his players to “get back on the horse” against Kilmarnock tomorrow night.
Sunday’s 3-2 reverse provoked an angry response from the Hoops boss, who had one eye on emulating both Martin O’Neil and Jock Stein by delivering all three domestic trophies to Parkhead.
But though his hopes of such an achievement are in tatters for this season at least, Lennon is keen for his side to show their quality against Killie.
“It’s probably the best thing you can do, to get back on the horse right away and go again,” he said.
“I will be looking for a really good reaction from the players and I am sure the supporters will be as well.”
Visitors Killie completed an 18-month deal for Northern Ireland international Sammy Clingan today, though the 29-year-old is unlikely to feature tomorrow night.
Elsewhere Celtic’s League Cup conquerers St Mirren host high-flying Inverness CT.
Kenny McLean (knee) joins the Buddies’ Hampden heroes in the squad for the clash while Terry Butcher’s men look to bounce back from their own League Cup disappointment.
Having lost to Hearts on penalties, his side will want to a win to cement second spot in the SPL and new loan signing Jordan Gibbons may feature after completing a loan move from QPR today.
The weekend’s cup action may have provided Hearts with some respite from their poor league campaign, but the struggling Jambos need to get a result against bottom club Dundee at Tynecastle tomorrow.
Finally Ross County, who completed the signing of Canada defender Andre Hainault today following a successful work permit application, host Hibernian and St Johnstone could hand a debut to QPR loanee Michael Doughty against on Aberdeen.
