Just the one letter on Thursday, which is normally a crisis all on its own, but this one will serve to illustrate just how dedicated some of our real supporters are.

The letter came from Co-operative Funeralcare and was accompanied by a cheque for £195.

This was raised because of the wishes of a deceased supporter that money be sent to the paper rather than spent on flowers at his funeral.

Dedication like that brings a lump to the throat and one can only admire a generation who put their class and its interests ahead of everything else. There's a lesson for us all in such gestures.

With standing orders, Thursday's total was £264.
