How the imperialists managed to exploit our weaknesses

Friday 10 April 2009

ROGER Enskat (M Star February 3) writes that "there was widespread abuse by the Greek-Cypriot majority of the human rights of the Turkish-Cypriot minority" prior to 1974.

This is a lie. The strife between our communities was promoted by and in the interests of imperialists.

The Cypriot people are not two monolithic armies who want to exterminate each other. The Greek junta would never have dared to overthrow the Cypriot government and Turkey would never have invaded and partitioned Cyprus, forcefully expelling 200,000 Greek Cypriots from their homes, without the US and Britain's approval.

AKEL is a Marxist-Leninist party, not a racist party. Many of its members, both Greek and Turkish Cypriot, were murdered because they were resisting the fascist elements within their two "communities."

Turkish Cypriot Dervis Kavazoglou said that the Turkish Cypriot leadership, "a handful of fascists, by using guns and fascists' methods snatched the leadership of the Turkish community. They are the ones that cause the suffering of the Turkish Cypriots."

On April 11 1965, Kavazoglou and Greek Cypriot Costas Mishaoulis were murdered together in their car by Turkish fascists.

They became the symbol of the Greek and Turkish Cypriot friendship.

How do you achieve partition when two communities live peacefully in mixed villages and towns?

By using fear, strife, intimidation and terrorism to demonstrate that the two communities cannot live together.
